Sport Kyle Shanahan Has Blunt Comment About WR Brandon Aiyuk
NFL player prop of the day: Brandon Aiyuk ready to ascend
Brandon Aiyuk was drafted in the first round of the 2020 draft by the San Francisco 49ers. In his first season in the league, the Arizona State product posted 748 receiving yards in just 12 games. As the season went on, Aiyuk's role in the offense grew and so did his production. With Jimmy Garoppolo healthy and Trey Lance waiting in the wings, Aiyuk will work with a good NFL quarterback for the first time in his career. Oddsmakers are projecting a jump from Aiyuk, as his over/under is set at 875.5 receiving yards for his sophomore season. Aiyuk dominated at times From October 25th through December 20th, Aiyuk played in six games.
Heading into his second NFL season after a solid performance in 2020, many felt San Francisco wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was in for a breakout year in 2021.
Unfortunately for the second-year wideout, Week 1 didn’t exactly indicate a step in that direction.
Seeing time on just 15 snaps for the 49ers this past weekend, Aiyuk was targeted zero times in his team’s 41-33 win over the Detroit Lions.
On Wednesday, head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed this lack of usage.
“He’s been a little inconsistent because he’s been in and out with his injury and stuff. … If he wants to be out there every single play, he’s got to be a lot better than the guy behind him,” Shanahan said, per NFL
Brandon Aiyuk Addresses Speculation About His Role
Brandon Aiyuk has been at the center of the biggest controversy surrounding the San Francisco 49ers this week. Aiyuk, a second-year wide receiver out of Arizona State, did not start in the 49ers’ Week 1 game. To make matters worse, he played only 26 snaps and didn’t catch a single pass. HC Kyle Shanahan on Brandon Aiyuk getting just 15 snaps on Sunday: "He's been a little inconsistent because he's been in and out with his injury and stuff. … If he wants to be out there every single play, he’s got to be a lot better than the guy behind him.”

Aiyuk dealt with a nagging hamstring injury throughout the preseason, but he wasn’t listed on the Niners’ Week 1 injury report. Following Sunday’s disappointing performance, the 23-year-old receiver has since been added to the injured list, but should be clear to play in Week 2.
Shanahan said that Aiyuk needs to be “a lot better” than the guy behind him on the depth chart. He certainly didn’t achieve that goal on Sunday.
Wideout Trent Sherfield finished the game with two catches for 23 yards and a touchdown. Leading receiver Deebo Samuel put together a stellar individual performance, logging nine catches for 189 yards and a touchdown.
Aiyuk will look to bounce back in a Week 2 matchup against the Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

Graham has started every game for the Eagles since 2018. Last season, he finished with eight sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, 46 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss and 16 quarterback hits. With Graham sidelined, the Eagles will have to rely on Derek Barnett, Ryan Kerrigan, Turron Jackson and Josh Sweat, who recently signed a three-year, $40 million extension. The Eagles lost Sunday's game to the 49ers 17-11 and are now 1-1 on the season. They'll take on the Dallas Cowboys next Monday.
