Sport Washington downs Giants as Dustin Hopkins makes good on second chance
The Giants have had MLB's best record for most of the season, so why does nobody believe in them?
San Francisco’s consistent excellence is rather incredible. The Giants have produced a winning percentage of .600 — that’s a 97-win pace, by the way — or better every single month this season. Their longest winning streak this season is “only” six games, but they’ve had six winning streaks of at least five games. The Giants have been under .500 for only one 10-game stretch this season; they were 4-6 from June 27 to July 7. Think about that: You can pick literally any 10-game stretch this year, and only once were they worse than 5-5.
The Washington Football Team had lost.
Then, it hadn’t.
Thanks to an offside penalty called on New York Giants defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence, Dustin Hopkins got another chance after missing a 48-yard field goal as time expired Thursday.

Hopkins tried again, this time from 43 yards, and the kick snuck inside the upright and the Washington Football Team stole a 30-29 victory from the Giants as time expired.
NFL insider expects New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman to be fired in 2022
Many fans already believe Gettleman’s tenure should be over. Given four draft classes to work with, including a 2019 class with three first-round picks, the results have been entirely underwhelming. Reviewing the New York Giants mistakes under Dave GettlemanGettleman received criticism in the 2018 NFL Draft for spending the No. 2 pick on Saquon Barkley instead of taking a potential franchise quarterback or trading down. He tried to redeem himself a year later, selecting Daniel Jones with the No. 6 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.Jones has an 8-18 record across two seasons, posting an 84.

The offside penalty was the second on New York on Washington’s game-winning drive.
Taylor Heinicke directed the march that wound up good for 50 yards on 11 plays in the final two minutes.
New York had taken the lead on a 35-yard field goal before Washington went on its game-winning march.
