Sport Ravens’ WR Sammy Watkins shares bold opinion about Lamar Jackson
MMQB: Lamar Jackson on the Work He's Doing to Prevent the NFL From Catching Up to Him
The Ravens' QB knows what people say about him. He and his coach give us a look at the areas he's trying to improve.SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Thursday I was here, the big story coming out was Matt Rhule’s Panthers taking a step forward in their final hours of camp against the Ravens, who’d “won” the joint practice between the teams the day before. And punctuating that effort was a headline play—coming when Donte Jackson undercut a route, picked off Lamar Jackson and touched off a raucous celebration that ended with Carolina linebacker Shaq Thompson’s punting the intercepted ball into the sky and drawing a flag for taunting.
One of the games that NFL fans had circled on their calendars for a while now is this weekend’s AFC showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens. Specifically, the game has come to be seen as a referendum on both quarterbacks, KC’s Patrick Mahomes and Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson.
Since the Chiefs have gone to two consecutive Super Bowls and Mahomes has been named League MVP and Super Bowl MVP, he’s got the leg-up right now in the battle to be the best quarterback in the conference.
When asked about whether or not he sees this game as a chance for him to claim something for himself, Lamar Jackson deflected, saying the game was about the teams.
Sammy Watkins: Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes definitely view it as a rivalry
Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson said yesterday that Sunday night’s Chiefs-Ravens game is not about him and Patrick Mahomes. But a receiver who has caught passes from both quarterbacks says they both view themselves as rivals. “It’s not about me and Mahomes,”. “Not to me. Probably to everyone else. But it’s the Ravens versus the Kansas City Chiefs.”
However, when Ravens wide receiver Sammy Watkins was asked about it, he said that he absolutely sees the game as a referendum for Jackson and the kind of game where he needs to take the next step.
Sammy Watkins on Lamar Jackson vs. Patrick Mahomes: "I’m definitely looking at it that way like, ‘Man, Lamar needs to win.’ He’s been doing a great job in this league with how he’s carrying himself. I just think it’s time for him to take that next hump and try to get a win."

Sammy Watkins on whether Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson view this as a rivalry between them: "I think those guys definitely view it that way. You can say you’re not, but the world is watching two of the best."
Daily Fantasy Week 2: Sunday night picks for Chiefs-Ravens
This week might be the best overall matchup of the young season with a battle between two AFC powerhouses as the defending conference champions, the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens, who are still reeling from their surprise upset loss in Las Vegas in Week 1. Depending on the type of contest we’re creating rosters for, we’ll need to adjust our player selection strategy. Once we understand the type of roster we need to be building for the specific contest you’re trying to take down, we can then focus on player selection, working to identify combinations of players that could all hit their respective ceilings together, based on specific game environ

“I’m definitely looking at it that way like, ‘Man, Lamar needs to win.’ He’s been doing a great job in this league with how he’s carrying himself,” Watkins said. “I just think it’s time for him to take that next hump and try to get a win.”
It’s possible that both things are true. Jackson does need to start cementing his legacy a bit more and getting a win over Mahomes and the Chiefs would help him get there. But the Ravens absolutely need to win this game following their loss to the Raiders on Monday night. A loss here would set them back to 0-2, a place they really don’t want to be to start the season.
Baltimore will get the chance to get their first win of the season when they take on the Chiefs on Sunday night at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.

The exact reason why a player misses practice isn’t necessarily a huge deal, especially if the differing reasons are likely to have a similar impact (or non-impact) on the player’s game availability. But there are times where that reason makes a big difference to the discussion around the player. And that led to some criticism Read more The post Adam Schefter comes under fire for Lamar Jackson tweet, investment in gambling app company alongside Robert Kraft appeared first on Awful Announcing.
