  Filip Hronek re-signs with Red Wings on three-year, $13.2 million deal Detroit drafted Hronek in the second round back in 2016. ? Detroit announced Friday that it has re-signed defenseman Filip Hronek via a three-year contract. While specifics of the agreement weren't confirmed by the Red Wings or the NHL website, The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) reports the deal carries an average annual value of $4.4 million and is worth $13.2 million. The 23-year-old was a restricted free agent.

The 44-year-old has signed a one-year deal to return to the New York Islanders, who drafted him 56th overall in 1996, the team announced Saturday.

Chara addressed the signing via Instagram, dusting off his old Isles jersey to make the announcement:

Chara spent the first four years of his NHL career with the Islanders before being traded to the Ottawa Senators in June 2001. He also spent four years with the Senators before signing a five-year, $37.5 million deal with the Boston Bruins in July 2006.

Chara was instantly named Boston's captain and he spent 14 years with the franchise, winning a Stanley Cup in 2011. He was a seven-time All-Star with the Bruins and also won the Mark Messier trophy during the 2010-11 season and the Norris Trophy during the 2008-09 campaign.

The Czechoslovakia native signed with the Washington Capitals for the 2020-21 season. He tallied two goals and eight assists in 55 games.

Chara has 666 points (207 goals, 459 assists) in 1,608 games played. He ranks 13th in NHL history in games played. Former San Jose Sharks forward Patrick Marleau sits atop the list with 1,779 games played.

If Hoffman is out four weeks, he'll miss Montreal's first five regular-season games. The Canadiens play their sixth game of the season on Oct. 23 against the Detroit Red Wings. Hoffman spent the 2020-21 season with the St. Louis Blues, tallying 17 goals and 19 assists in 52 games. Before that, he spent two seasons with the Florida Panthers after spending his first seven years in the NHL with the Ottawa Senators. The 31-year-old has tallied 395 points (189 goals, 206 assists) in 545 career regular-season games. He has scored more than 20 goals six times in his career.
