Rookie quarterback Mac Jones saw his first official NFL action and looked thee part of a first-round pick. The former No. 15 overall pick in this year’s draft, is still fighting with Cam Newton for the starting quarterback job.

The former Alabama star quarterback received a rousing ovation as he jogged onto the field. His very first NFL pass attempt was a nice strike with Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who appeared to come down with the ball.

After the game was over, reporters asked Belichick why he didn’t challenge the play, when he clearly would have won the challenge.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick backs NFL's emphasis on taunting penalties: 'I think that's poor sportsmanship' Though many NFL fans have decried the emphasis on taunting penalties to start the 2021 NFL season, Patriots coach Bill Belichick supports it."In general, I don’t really think there’s a place for taunting in the game," Belichick said Monday morning in a radio interview on WEEI Boston. "I think that’s poor sportsmanship and it leads to other things. It leads to retaliation, and then where do you draw the line? I think the whole idea of the rule is to kind of nip it in the bud and not let it get started.

“Some good things, some things we can improve on. That’s true for everybody,” Belichick said via ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Jones wasn’t perfect, but he did finish the night 13-of-19 passing for 87 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
