Watt has emerged as one of the NFL's best edge rushers since being selected in the first round of the 2017 draft.

After a career year with 10 sacks, Okwara wants to make Detroit his home.

Romeo Okwara isn’t exactly a household name, and even skates under the radar in Detroit due partly to his quiet disposition, as well as playing across from the far more highly paid Trey Flowers. But statistically speaking, the list of pass rushers who have been more productive than him this season is growing increasingly short. “I think Romeo has been unbelievable,” coach Matt Patricia said. “Really he and Trey Flowers are two guys that come to work every single day and they make each other better. They really spend a lot of time together talking about the game and techniques and how they practice

On Sunday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters that Romeo Okwara‘s lower leg injury “doesn’t look good.” More specifically, sources believe that the edge rusher has torn his Achilles (Twitter link via NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport).

Monday’s tests will confirm Okwara’s condition, but it doesn’t sound promising. A torn Achilles would instantly end the 26-year-old’s season and leave Detroit without one of its best defenders.

Okwara re-upped with the Lions on three-year, $39M deal in March with $25M guaranteed. He registered a career-high 10 sacks last year, setting himself up for another impactful season.

Broncos’ Bradley Chubb to undergo surgery on ankle, out indefinitely

Broncos’ Bradley Chubb to undergo surgery on ankle, out indefinitely Chubb’s ankle surgery will mark his second ankle operation this year. He underwent a procedure this spring, and while that surgery was classified as minor, Chubb missing Week 1 introduced a red flag on his 2021 status. The Broncos picked up Chubb’s fifth-year option, and new GM George Paton identified the former top-five pick as a cornerstone player. Chubb made the Pro Bowl last season and made a run at Jevon Kearse’s rookie sack record in 2018, recording 12 that season. This represents a blow for the 2-0 Broncos, who have seen Von Miller return to strong form after he missed the entire 2020 season.

As NFL trade deadline approaches, Detroit Lions have more options to buy and sell (subscription required). Looking ahead: Lions will have to go through mighty defense of the Colts in Week 8.

Detroit Lions : Edge Romeo Okwara . The Detroit Lions might have overpaid a bit when they signed pass - rusher Romeo Okwara to a three-year, million deal after only one strong season. Okwara produced 10 sacks in 2020 after only logging 10 over the first four years of his career. Still, he was arguably Detroit's best defender last season, and he's going to be a real pain for any opposing offense that overlooks him.

Similar to Shaquil Barrett — who scored a $72M deal from the Bucs — Okwara was hardly known just a few years ago. He missed the Giants’ 53-man cut in ’18, but he developed into something of a sack machine. The Lions didn’t get to see much of that in 2021, unfortunately. In his four games, Okwara has notched just one sack with six stops.

The Lions are now 0-4 after losing 24-14 to the Bears in Chicago. Already on the cusp of playoff irrelevance, they’ll try for their first win next week against the Vikings.

Report: Buccaneers LB Jason Pierre-Paul likely to be inactive vs. Rams with shoulder injury If Pierre-Paul misses time, Anthony Nelson and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka could see more playing time this weekend. Nelson has played 21 snaps this season and has one tackle. Tryon, meanwhile, has played 40 snaps, recording four tackles and a quarterback hit.The Bucs are 2-0 this season and are favored to win Sunday's game against the Rams. However, losing Pierre-Paul is significant, so the rest of the defense will have to step up if he's sidelined. Subscribe to Yardbarker's Morning Bark, the most comprehensive newsletter in sports.

Okwara took the same old-school approach to working on his fundamentals during the offseason, training in California with his brother (and now teammate) Julian Okwara , as well as Raiders linebacker and former Notre Dame teammate James Onwualu.
