Steelers Injury Report: Ben Roethlisberger practices on Wednesday

Steelers Injury Report: Ben Roethlisberger practices on Wednesday Coming out of the bye week, only three players were limited on Wednesday. While some were unsure what to expect, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger practiced for the first time on a Wednesday in 2021. Listed as a limited participant, this simply means Roethlisberger did participate but may not have done every activity in which he would regularly partake in a normal practice. Not having played a game in 10 days, it was good for Roethlisberger to get some extra work without doing too much heading into the Steelers contest this Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. As expected, Roethlisberger was still listed as having a pectoral/hip injury.

The player who missed practice for the Steelers was tight and Eric Ebron who is still dealing with a hamstring injury . Showing up on the injury report last Thursday, Ebron has not practiced since and was ruled out early for the Steelers game in Week 8. Ebron’s progression through the week will be the biggest indication of his availability for Monday.

- Steelers kicker Chris Boswell took his first steps toward returning to the field by participating in Thursday's practice at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. Boswell left Sunday's game against the Browns with a concussion after getting hit in the helmet on a fake field goal attempt. The Steelers signed veteran kicker Josh Lambo earlier this week to the practice squad as a backup plan should Boswell be unable to go against the Bears. Boswell was one of four Steelers who were limited participants Thursday afternoon with tight end Eric Ebron being the lone player who did not practice.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have moved into their second day of preparation to take on the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. With the extra day of preparation, all of the Steelers injury reports will come one day later than usual and game statuses will not be known until Saturday. In the second injury report of the week courtesy of the Steelers PR department, one player did not practice while another two were limited.

One of the players who participated in a limited capacity on Thursday was kicker Chris Boswell who left the Steelers game late in the first half on Sunday with a concussion. Being in the NFL concussion protocol, Boswell first has to perform limited physical activities before moving on to eventually be cleared. Boswell was a full participant on Friday which gives him the possibility, and probability, to progress through the protocol in time for Monday night’s game.

Steelers Injury Report : Ben Roethlisberger questionable for Monday’s game. The Steelers quarterback did not practice this week leading up to Monday’s game. Right away, seeing a questionable designation on quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is very concerning. Although he was listed as a coaches decision along with a knee injury , it is unclear at this time if there is a realistic possibility of Roethlisberger not playing on Monday. Perhaps it was due to him taking the week off from practice which has dictated having an injury status.

For the second straight week, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger participated in a limited fashion during the first practice of the week. Last week the Steelers were coming out of the bye and therefore Roethlisberger had some extra rest. With an additional day of rest before practice resumed on Thursday, Roethlisberger did participate in a limited fashion and is still listed with a pectoral/hip injury. It is Roethlisberger’s status on Friday which is now concerning as he was listed as a limited participant with a new injury of his right shoulder added to the report. At this time, it is uncertain if Roethlisberger just took it easy because of soreness, or if he sustained an injury to his shoulder in practice and could not finish. All eyes will be on the Steelers practice on Saturday and Roethlisberger‘s availability for Monday night.

Listed as a limited participant, this simply means Roethlisberger did participate but may not have done every activity in which he would regularly partake in a normal practice. Two players listed on the Andrew report as full participants with knee injuries were Anthony McFarland, who just came off IR on Wednesday, and Zach Banner. With both players recently coming off of the Reserve/ Injured List, neither has played in a regular-season game in 2021.

The player who missed practice on Thursday for the Steelers was tight and Eric Ebron who is still dealing with a hamstring injury. Showing up on the injury report last Thursday, Ebron has not practiced since and was ruled out early for the Steelers game in Week 8. On Friday, Ebron improved to a limited participant, leaving the possibility to play Monday.

Another veteran who found himself limited on Thursday was defensive captain Cameron Heyward. Listed with an ankle injury, Heyward spoke with the media on Thursday and did not seem to be concerned about his availability for Week 9. Heyward returned to practice as a full participant and should not be considered as a possibility of missing Monday’s game.

Another player on the injury report Thursday was reserve offensive lineman B.J. Finney who is listed with a back injury. On Friday, Finney was unable to practice, indicating that he likely suffered his injury during practice on Thursday. With this development, there is the possibility Finney may not be available for the Steelers on Monday.
