Five things to watch in two Ohio special election primaries

Five things to watch in two Ohio special election primaries Two special House primaries in Ohio Tuesday have emerged as potential predictors of whether the centrist or more ideological wings of both the Democratic and Republican parties hold more sway heading into the 2022 midterms. A special election in a red district near Columbus for the seat vacated by former Rep. Steve Stivers (R) and another in for a blue seat near Cleveland formerly held by now-Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge have drawn massive interests from lawmakers and outside groups, making the latest battlegrounds for the civil wars gripping both Republicans and Democrats.

Montreal Canadiens star goaltender Carey Price returned to the club earlier this month after he underwent offseason knee surgery and later voluntarily entered the NHL/NHL Players' Association player assistance program ahead of the start of the 2021-22 season.

Montreal head coach Dominique Ducharme told reporters last week Price had skated at the team's practice facility, but Ducharme has now confirmed the 34-year-old hasn't been on the ice since last Monday.

"He keeps working on everything else. In the gym, off-ice treatment and so on," Ducharme said of Price during Monday's media availability, according to Sportsnet.

‘Many steps’ to be taken before Price plays again for Canadiens

‘Many steps’ to be taken before Price plays again for Canadiens Price returned to the Habs after spending 30 days in the NHL/NHLPA’s player assistance program. While his presence back around his teammates was much-needed “good news” as teammate Cedric Paquette said, there is no set timeline yet for a Price return to the ice. Price met with the team’s training staff over the weekend so they can see how his surgically repaired knee was coming along. Next is to meet with coaching staff so the parties can map out a return plan, one which might include a conditioning stint with AHL Laval. “I haven’t met him yet. I need to see him.

Ducharme added that Price's absence is "related to getting back in shape, knee, combination of those."

On Nov. 9, Price announced he entered a treatment facility for substance abuse over a month ago, and Monday's update isn't all that alarming or surprising. Around that same time, Ducharme said the plan was for Price to complete workouts in the gym before beginning on-ice sessions with goalie coach Eric Raymond. From there, Price will eventually be cleared to participate in team practices.

There remains no timetable for his return to action.

For what it's worth, the Canadiens aren't one player away from righting the figurative ship this fall. They sit at 5-13-2 overall and in seventh place in the eight-team Atlantic Division ahead of Wednesday's game at the 11-3-5 Washington Capitals.

Temple fires coach Rod Carey after 3 seasons .
Temple has fired head coach Rod Carey. Carey completed his third season with the school with a 38-14 loss to Navy on Saturday, a loss that gave the Owls a 3-9 record for the season. Temple opened the season 3-2 but then lost seven straight to close out the year. During that seven-game losing streak, the Owls were outscored 299-59. "It's never an easy decision to replace a head coach," Temple athletic director Arthur Johnson said. "The past two seasons have not been easy with the challenges of the pandemic. I want to thank Rod for staying committed to our student-athletes and wish him and his family well in their next chapter.
