Daniel Preston Hooker (born 13 February 1990) is a New Zealand mixed martial artist. He was the King in the Ring Middleweight Kickboxing Champion and WKBF X-Rules Welterweight Champion

Dan Hooker is known for his wars at lightweight. However after some tough losses, he is considering a return to featherweight . With the run of crazy fights that he has had at lightweight, it is easy to forget that Hooker started his UFC career at featherweight . His first six fights in the promotion took place at 145lb, including bouts with the likes of Yair Rodriguez and Hick Diaz himself, Jason Knight.

Think Dan Hooker is too big to make the featherweight limit? Well, think again.

On Monday, Hooker (21-11 MMA, 11-7 UFC) shared on his social media the result of a successful test weight cut with the caption “45 look alive.” Stepping on the scale, Hooker weighed 146.0 pounds – a weight that would qualify him to fight in a lighter weight class than the one he’s competed in since June 2017.

In a recent interview with The Mac Life, Hooker hinted at a potential test weight cut with the help of the UFC and dietitians, but did avoided deep dive into further details.

“I’m doing a little something, something at the moment,” Hooker said. “You’ve got to make your next move your best move. Let’s just say I’m working with the UFC and the fight dietician very closely and I’m doing a test, a little test run. And we’ll see.”

UFC lightweight Dan Hooker has hinted at changing the weight class he currently competes at in the promotion. It’s well known by this point that Dan Hooker is the kind of man who doesn’t give up without a fight . Come hell or high water, he will do everything in his power to secure the win – but at 155 pounds, he’s been unable to do so in three of his last four outings. Now, in a recent interview with Oscar Willis, Hooker has revealed that he’s in the process of testing out a weight class change.

Hooker should fight down in rank, but someone like Gregor or Islam. The unranked guys should be fighting someone 10-15 coming off a loss like drew dober or CDF. You have to look at the opponents they faced though, Fiziev just knocked out Moicano in one round and Arman's only loss is against Islam in an awesome, competitive fight which was his UFC debut. He then beat three good fighters (even if he missed weight in the last fight ), I think at this point it make sense to test him with a ranked opponent.

If Hooker drops to featherweight for competition purposes, it won’t be his first delve into the lighter division’s waters. From June 2014 to November 2016, Hooker’s first six fights took place in the featherweight division where he went 3-3. Since moving up to lightweight, Hooker has gone 8-4.

Hooker, 31, most recently competed at UFC 267 in October when he was quickly submitted in Round 1 by surging lightweight contender Islam Makhachev. The defeat was his third in four fights.
