Oklahoma State is 2-1 to begin the season, and the Cowboys return a great deal of talent from a team that made the 2021 NCAA Tournament. UMass Lowell began the 2021-22 season with back-to-back wins. © Provided by CBS Sports Caesars Sportsbook lists the Cowboys as 17-point favorites for this 5 p.m. ET tipoff. The College Football Playoff committee will have some tough decisions to make by Tuesday evening after Michigan upset Ohio State and Oklahoma State held off Oklahoma in Week 13. Several matchups on Championship Week, however, will go a long way in setting the final playoff field. The latest college football odds for Championship Week from Caesars Sportsbook list Georgia as a 6.5-point favorite against Alabama (4 p.m. ET, CBS) in the SEC Championship Game. Cincinnati, meanwhile, is -10.5 against Houston in the AAC title matchup.

Top college football predictions for Championship Week

One of the top college football picks the model is recommending for Championship Week: Cincinnati (-10.5) covers against Houston in the AAC Championship Game at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday. The Bearcats came in at No. 4 in the last playoff rankings and they held serve in Week 13 with a 35-13 win over East Carolina, covering the 15-point spread in that one. Expected to be on the bubble as the committee evaluates its credentials against Power Five teams, Cincinnati needs a big win over a ranked Houston squad.

Report: Florida, Virginia Tech eyeing same head coach candidate

Report: Florida, Virginia Tech eyeing same head coach candidate The Florida Gators and Virginia Tech Hokies may be competing with each other for one head coaching candidate. © SCOTT CLAUSE/USA TODAY Network via Imagn Content Services, LLC Louisiana coach Billy Napier is poised to be a hot candidate for bigger schools as the coaching carousel heats up, and that already appears to be the case. Florida is interested in bringing him in to replace Dan Mullen, and is aware of interest from Virginia Tech as well, according to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. Have heard Florida has genuine interest in Billy Napier and knows that Va. Tech does too.

SportsLine's computer says the Bearcats get the job done. The model projects a strong defensive effort for the Bearcats, who hold Houston quarterback Clayton Tune under 200 yards of passing. Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder throws for around 230 yards and rushes for 30 more, helping the Bearcats cover in 60 percent of simulations.

Another one of the college football predictions from the model: Oklahoma State, fresh off a massive Bedlam win over rival Oklahoma, continues its roll and knocks off the Baylor Bears in the Big 12 Championship Game at noon ET on Saturday. The Cowboys pushed (-4) against OU in the 37-33 win. It was just the second time all season they didn't cover as they enter this week with a 9-1-1 ATS record on the season.

Dave Aranda's Baylor squad has been solid against the spread as well, going 7-4. But Oklahoma State, still very much in the playoff picture, has more on the line this week, and the model is projecting a big win for the Cowboys. They hold Baylor to just 18 points as the Cowboys cover well over 50 percent of the time. That strong defensive effort also helps the under (46.5) hit, making this game a great target for college football parlays.

Cincinnati HC Luke Fickell reportedly not interested in USC job

Cincinnati HC Luke Fickell reportedly not interested in USC job Many have viewed Fickell as a natural candidate for USC. While Cincinnati is having an outstanding season and should receive College Football Playoff consideration, there is also the athletic director connection. USC AD Mike Bohn was the AD at Cincinnati when Fickell was hired as head coach there in 2017. USC boosters might be hoping Bohn can convince Fickell to take the job, but it doesn’t sound likely.Fickell is currently focused on stating the case for Cincinnati to be considered one of the four-best teams in the country.

Former Oklahoma players endorse Clemson DC Brent Venables for new HC .
The abrupt departure of Lincoln Riley has left Oklahoma searching for a new head coach. For several Oklahoma alumni, the choice is an obvious one. © Adam Hagy-USA TODAY Sports In the hours after Riley left for USC, there was a groundswell of support from ex-players for the Sooners to make a run at Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables. Venables has long been a highly-respected assistant coach, and served as Oklahoma’s defensive coordinator from 1999 to 2011.
