3M Open 2022 picks, predictions, best bets, odds: Expert says back Davis Riley, fade Jason Day

3M Open 2022 picks, predictions, best bets, odds: Expert says back Davis Riley, fade Jason Day Patrick McDonald has analyzed the 3M Open 2022 field at TPC Twin Cities and locked in his best betsFeb 24, 2019; Mexico City, MEX; Dustin Johnson plays his third shot from a bunker on the second hole during the final round of the WGC - Mexico Championship golf tournament at Club de Golf Chapultepec.

Last year's event brought one of the most chaotic finishes in PGA Tour history, and fans will be hoping for more of the same this week at the 2022 Wyndham Championship. Not only was it the final regular-season event of the season – as it is this year – the 2021 Wyndham Championship went down to a six-man sudden-death playoff, tied for the largest in PGA Tour history. Kevin Kisner birdied the second extra hole to finish ahead of the quintet of Adam Scott, Si Woo Kim, Branden Grace, Kevin Na and Roger Sloan. Kisner is among the former winners in the Wyndham Championship 2022 field, along with Jim Herman (2020), J.T. Poston (2019), Kim (2016) and Webb Simpson (2011). Will Zalatoris, the highest-ranked player at No. 14, and 2019 British Open champion Shane Lowry are among the other notables in the field.

The latest 2022 Wyndham Championship odds from Caesars Sportsbook list Zalatoris (16-1), Lowry (16-1) and Sungjae Im (16-1) as the co-favorites. Simpson (18-1) and Billy Horschel (20-1) are right behind, while Russell Henley (22-1) and Kim (28-1) also are top contenders in the Wyndham Championship 2022 field. Before making any 2022 Wyndham Championship picks, you need to see the PGA predictions and best bets from SportsLine golf insider Patrick McDonald.

After spending time at FanSided and NBC Sports EDGE, McDonald joined CBS Sports as a golf writer in the spring of 2022. Now covering the sport from a broader perspective, McDonald still likes to dip his toes into the betting pools on a weekly basis on the PGA Tour.

LIV Golf Trump Bedminster 2022 odds, picks, field: Golf expert reveals best bets, sleepers, favorites to fade

LIV Golf Trump Bedminster 2022 odds, picks, field: Golf expert reveals best bets, sleepers, favorites to fade Patrick McDonald has locked in his 2022 LIV Golf Bedminster long shots, sleepers, favorites to avoid and best betsOWINGS MILLS, MARYLAND - AUGUST 27: Bryson DeChambeau of the United States plays his shot from the second tee during the second round of the BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club on August 27, 2021 in Owings Mills, Maryland.

He takes a measured approach to his outright selections and is up more than 52 units on those plays in 2022, having hit Cameron Smith (22-1) at the Tournament of Champions, Hudson Swafford (250-1) at The American Express, Joaquin Niemann (70-1) at the Genesis Invitational and Justin Thomas (66-1) live at the PGA Championship.

McDonald just missed on his long-shot play at last week's Rocket Mortgage Classic, with 80-1 shot Taylor Pendrith battling for the lead all week until winner Tony Finau's dominant Sunday. The expert also pegged Pendrith as the first-round leader at 70-1, and the Canadian shared that honor with Finau after both shot 64 on Thursday. Pendrith ended up tied for second alongside reigning FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay .

At the 3M Open the previous week, McDonald nailed both of his prop plays, taking Cam Davis as the top Australian finisher (+140) and Sahith Theegala to miss the cut (+275). The expert is up more than eight units on his PGA Tour props.

Top 2022 Wyndham Championship expert picks

In a shocking move, McDonald is fading Simpson this week, despite his track record and status as a favorite. The North Carolina native has always found comfort at Sedgefield, where he has finished in the top five four of the past five years. He was one shot out of the playoff last year, which put him T-7. But McDonald thinks his recent struggles trump that track record, as Simpson hasn't finished in the top 15 since November and tied for 69th in Detroit last week.

McDonald doesn't have any concerns at all about Tyrrell Hatton and is backing the Englishman at 30-1. Hatton tied for 11th at The Open at St. Andrews at his last tournament, and only an uncharacteristically balky putter kept him from true contention. Hatton hit almost 81 percent of his greens in regulation on the Old Course, his best performance of the season. He ranks fifth in strokes gained putting, so McDonald expects the 30-year-old to put it all together this week. See who else to pick here.

This week, we are above that threshold. There is a little more drama, though, because some spots in the playoff field opened up due to suspensions. (Thank you, LIV Golf.) There is still upward and downward mobility for a number of golfers.

ACC College Football Championship Futures Betting Breakdown .
Clemson is favored to win the ACC at SI Sportsbook and Miami is poised to challenge in coach Mario Cristobal’s first season. Despite winning 10 games, 2021 marked a down year for Clemson as the program failed to win the ACC championship for the first time since Florida State completed the three-peat in 2014. Oddsmakers expect Dabo Swinney will enjoy a bounce-back campaign and lead the Tigers to a potential 12th consecutive double-digit win season. SI Sportsbook has installed the Tigers as prohibitive -143 favorites in an ACC conference that is more wide open than the betting odds indicate.
