Report: Jon Gruden in running for Bucs head coaching job if Dirk Koetter is fired

Report: Jon Gruden in running for Bucs head coaching job if Dirk Koetter is fired There were high expectations for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers heading into the 2017 season, but the team currently holds a 2-5 record, which has them in last place in the NFC South standings. The team’s underwhelming play on the field has head coach Dirk Koetter’s seat getting a bit warmer with each passing week, and if the team doesn’t turn things around soon, it could lead to him being fired as a result. Even though he’s only been at the helm for less than two full seasons, Koetter had never been a head coach at the NFL level before, and there was some doubt as to whether or not he could get the job done. With the Bucs having lost their last four games, talk about Koetter’s future is heating up, with rumors swirling about him being on the hot seat. Mike Lombardi of The Ringer spoke about Koetter’s situation on the most recent episode of his podcast — “GM Street” — and he revealed that Jon Gruden could be headed back to the Bucs if Koetter is fired. “A lot of people in the NFL are telling me that they’re hearing Gruden back to the Bucs,” Lombardi said. “He’s made up with the Glazers, and they could bring him back.” He continued: “Nobody outside the NFL is talking about it, but everybody I talk to inside the NFL thinks it’s over with for Dirk Koetter if he doesn’t get this thing turned around fairly quickly,” Lombardi said. Gruden coached the Bucs from 2002-08, and is a favorite among fans. There’s now a lot of pressure on Koetter, who is likely coaching for his job, with the possibility of the only person to lead the team to a Super Bowl victory waiting in the wings.

The report from Football Scoop also mentions some off the wall candidates for Tennessee . Names that we haven’t heard to this point like Cutcliffe Documents show Dan Mullen, Paul Johnson, Les Miles each expressed interest in Tennessee job. Report : Gruden “ not interested ” in Tennessee

“I’m not interested ,” Gruden told Eskin. Gruden coached the Raiders from 1998 to 2001 and the Buccaneers from 2002 to 2008, and his name has surfaced in connection with several coaching vacancies since the Buccaneers fired him. But Gruden has a prominent and high-paying job at ESPN

The gruden-coaster roars on.

Another day, another grumor. This one isn’t so much fun, however. According to FootballScoop.com, Gruden has no interest in the Tennessee job. Here’s the full quote from Scott Roussel.

Jon Gruden has no interest in being the next head coach at Tennessee. This is not happening. No one is being contacted about potentially joining his staff. Move on Vol fans…

This is the polar opposite of what John Brice reported yesterday. The gruden-coaster races on...

So look, it depends on who you believe at this point. Most all of the national guys laugh when you bring up Jon Gruden’s name with the Tennessee job. However, several local guys still maintain that there’s at least somewhat of a chance.

Vols respond to report Kendrick played with concussion

Vols respond to report Kendrick played with concussion Tennessee head coach Butch Jones and athletic director John Currie responded on Wednesday to a report saying that a Vols player played in Saturday’s game with a concussion that the coaching staff knew about. The Read Optional reported on Tuesday that Vols right tackle Brett Kendrick suffered a concussion against Kentucky and the coaching staff knew about it but still played him.“He is resting in a dark room. He doesn’t remember anything about the second half of the game,” a text message to the Read Optional said. “They left him in until the last 22 seconds and only pulled him out because he finally threw up on the sideline.

Jon Gruden is apparently not interested in any way in the Tennessee football coaching job. The Tennessee Volunteers are in search of a new head football coach now that they’ve finally shown Butch Jones Really, a report of Gruden having no interest in the Tennessee job shouldn’t surprise many.

But even if Gruden was interested in the Eagles' job, there's not much indication the interest is mutual. The Daily News reports Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie is currently most interested in Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson and Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase. The Eagles had a

We’re all just out here hanging in the balance until we get definitive word from either Gruden or Gruden’s camp. One thing Tennessee can’t afford to do here is wait too long for an answer from him.

Like I’ve said all through this, I’ll believe it when I see it with Gruden and Tennessee. Things did seem to get somewhat real yesterday, but now we’ve got conflicting reports. Grumor season won’t end until Gruden wants it to end.

The report from Football Scoop also mentions some off the wall candidates for Tennessee. Names that we haven’t heard to this point like Cutcliffe, Jimbo, Fleck and Leach were all mentioned.

Here are some thought from me on each.

Jimbo Fisher, Head Coach, Florida State Seminoles

Football Scoop reports that “Jimbo Fisher is willing to listen.” It seems like we’ve been down this road before with Fisher and I’m not buying it. We’ve also seen Fisher linked to the Texas A&M job today, for what it’s worth. It’s worth noting that he was connected to the LSU job last year, so this seems par for the course with Fisher.

Butch Jones Fired: Candidates to Replace Him at Tennessee

Butch Jones Fired: Candidates to Replace Him at Tennessee Tennessee fired Butch Jones after four-plus seasons as head coach. Butch Jones was finally fired after Tennessee's embarrassing loss to Missouri. COMPARE: College Players | College Teams The embattled fifth-year Tennessee head coach was reportedly relieved of duties on Sunday, according to Bruce Feldman, as the Vols' miserable 2017 carried on with a 41-17 loss to the Tigers. After arriving from Cincinnati in 2013, Jones went 12-13 in his first two years before winning nine games apiece in 2015 and 2016.

Not all people with high testosterone levels are not interested in others, but that factor could add to the problem. See how can a man tell if they have high levels of Some of those people might then start to convince themselves that they are not interested in people in order to justify their own behavior.

ESPN analyst Jon Gruden told the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Monday that he is not interested in any of the NFL head coaching vacancies. Five coaches have been fired in the past 24 hours, creating openings in Cleveland, Detroit, Minnesota, Tampa Bay and Washington.

PJ Fleck, Head Coach, Minnesota Golden Gophers

Football Scoop says that “Fleck is on Currie’s list.” He was one of the hot names last year, but didn’t get one of the big openings. Fleck ended up taking the Minnesota job and is currently 5-5 in his first season.

David Cutcliffe, Head Coach, Duke Blue Devils

Football Scoop says that Cutcliffe is on Currie’s list. There was a time when Cutcliffe would have made sense for Tennessee — now is not that time. Cut is 63 years old and won four games last year. He’s 4-6 right now. How are you going to sell that to the fanbase?

Mike Leach, Head Coach, Washington State Cougars

Leach is out there lurking in this cycle. He’s been connected to just about every opening or potential opening to this point. There’s no debating his ability to win football games, but some feel that his personality isn’t for everyone. I personally love the guy, but I’m not sure Currie would.

The report mentions Frost, Mullen and Brohm as well, but Roussel doesn’t believe either of the three will end up at Tennessee.

Report: Giants interested in another former NL MVP .
The San Francisco Giants’ top priority this winter is to add some pop to an underwhelming lineup. And while the Giants have primarily been linked to reigning NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton, the team is keeping its options open. According to this one report, San Francisco is in contact with the Pittsburgh Pirates about former NL MVP Andrew McCutchen.
