For the moment, 83 of the dead have been registered in Florida, where 'Ian' made landfall last week as a category 4 hurricane, while another four people have died in North Carolina, according to information gathered by the NBC television network.

Rescue teams have provided aid to at least 1,100 people in Florida since the hurricane hit, as explained by the region's governor, Ron DeSantis. "I have seen the great support and resilience shown by the community that wants to get back on its feet," he stressed. "We will be helping them every step of the way," he said.

'Ian', which has become a post-tropical cyclone, has caused heavy flooding and power outages in North Carolina and South Carolina.
