The federal states can decide on the mask obligation in buses and lanes of local transport. However, according to the Infection Protection Act, a FFP2 mask obligation is laid down nationwide for long-distance trains and long-distance buses nationwide by April 7, 2023. An advance for an end to the obligation in public transport has already come from Schleswig -Holstein - with a view to the turn of the year.

A nationwide “Germany ticket” with an introductory price of 49 euros a month is to come in the new year and build on the popular 9-euro tickets from the summer. The exact start date is open.

Transport ministry representatives said that the government would not change its position. The ruling People Power Party told the union representing the 25,000 striking drivers that they must return to work before lawmakers will deliberate a bill on demands, the union said in a statement.Neither side set a date for the next negotiation session.
