US SR-72 Darkstar – The Top Gun: Maverick ‘Mach 10’ Plane Is ‘Real’
A Mississippi man was arrested and charged with mayhem after police said he bit off another man's nose in an argument over golf
Bay St. Louis Police Department said when officers found the victim with ""with a disfiguring facial injury."In June, President Joe Biden signed into law the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act — the most significant piece of gun legislation to pass in decades. Part of the bill included $750 million in federal funding for states to implement intervention programs such as gun restraining orders, more colloquially known as "red flag laws.
More than 100,000 people at an air show in California were able to see the new mockup of the SR-72 Darkstar spy plane, which was featured in the blockbuster movie (it hit Mach 10 in the movie). The Hollywood version of the Darkstar sat beside the in October at the at , California. The SR-72 is known as the “Son of Blackbird,” so this was a generational public relations moment for the Darkstar program and . Doubling down on speed The SR-71 in its heyday was an ultra fast, high-flying machine, but the stealthy SR-72 might eventually reach speeds of , nearly twice the velocity of the SR-71. The Darkstar will be unmanned and capable of gathering the intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance data expected from a spy plane, but it might also have .
Mix that with hypersonic flight, and you have a noteworthy craft for the U.S. Air Force.
SR-91 Aurora Spy Plane: Mach 5 Fact or Fiction?
Within my very first published article for 1945, a primer on the SR-71 Blackbird, I made a brief mention of the mysterious SR-91 Aurora spy plane as a possible successor to the Blackbird. Hypothetically, the Aurora could reach Mach 5+, making it indeed the fastest manned aircraft ever to fly. However, it is a matter […]Furthermore, alleged sightings of the Aurora soon made their way “across the pond” to Britain, beginning in late August 1989 with Chris Gibson, a 12-year veteran of the Royal Observer Corps and an expert on aircraft recognition; Mr.
Lockheed has developed a combined cycle dual-mode engine that has ramjet features. Dual mode means that a turbine engine cycle provides thrust from takeoff to Mach-3, at which point the ramjet takes over to reach Mach-6. The idea is to outrun enemy warplanes and air defenses.
Engineers from Skunk Works designed the version of the Darkstar that appeared in the film. While that was a fictional prop, rumor has it the in getting a glimpse of the mockup before the movie was even released, because it seemed so real.Skunk Works has been working on the SR-72 since 2013 and tested its engines in 2017. It may reach initial operational capability by 2030, with full service in the Air Force following a few years later. The unmanned bird is likely to be and could see service as a hypersonic bomber while flying out ahead of the and the .
High Hopes and Hollywood Dreams for the Darkstar
Meet the F-5: The Real ‘MiG-28’ That Was in Top Gun
Top Gun: Maverick will be the highest-grossing film of 2022. The sequel to the original Top Gun has become a pop culture phenomenon. Maverick picks up with the story of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) as he navigates the military’s chain of command and prepares for a foreign power with nuclear implications. The film is […]The F-5 was capable of hitting Mach 1.63 and had a range of 554 miles. It could climb at a rate of 34,500 feet per minute, reaching its maximum ceiling of 51,800 feet in about 90 seconds. The F-5 was respectably armed, too, carrying two 20mm M39A2 Revolver canons and seven hard points fit for missiles, rockets, or bombs.
Hypersonic weapon technology should be mature by the time the Son of Blackbird is ready to fly regularly. It will need to be, because, traveling at Mach-6, the Darkstar will need to launch hypersonic weapons. There are additional challenges: Performing turns and opening bomb bay doors will be difficult and will require a significant amount of ingenuity from designers and engineers. The shape of the airplane will be interesting. concept art for the SR-72 as having “underslung twin air intakes, slim low-mounted delta wing assemblies, and a single vertical tail fin.” The SR-72 will not have a cockpit, and all avionics and controls will be inside the fuselage. The SR-71 could reach 85,000 feet, and the Son of Blackbird could fly even higher – perhaps even reaching . While the Hollywood buzz is exciting for the SR-72 program, the Son of Blackbird still needs a lot of work, and a lot of funds. The hype could run into delays and cost overruns any year.
The speed and altitude goals are ambitious, and the unmanned features will have to be integrated with manned airplanes.
State judge places hold on Oregon's gun law, state to appeal
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A ruling by a state court judge placed Oregon’s tough new voter-approved gun law on hold late Tuesday, just hours after a federal court judge allowed the ban on the sale and transfer of high-capacity magazines to take effect this week. The ruling by Harney County Judge Robert Raschio threw the implementation of Measure 114 — set for Thursday — into limbo and Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum said on Twitter that her office will urgently appeal to the Oregon Supreme Court. That filing is likely to come Wednesday morning. “It’s been a busy day for Measure 114, Oregon’s new gun safety law, which is supposed to go into effect Thursday.

Oregon judge extends ban on parts of tough new gun law .
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon judge on Tuesday extended an earlier order blocking a key part of a new, voter-approved gun law and was hearing lengthy arguments on whether to also prevent the law's ban on high-capacity magazines from taking effect. Harney County Judge Robert Raschio let stand his temporary restraining order that blocks a permit-to-purchase provision of Measure 114, a law narrowly approved by voters in Oregon in November. He also temporarily blocked another provision of the new law that prevents the sale of a gun until the results of a background check come back.
