The Catholic Diocese of Erie published a list of 34 priests and 17 laypeople who it says have faced credible accusations of sexual abuse or inappropriate behavior.

The diocese put the names on its website along with updates to its policy to better protect children. Some people on the list were convicted of a crime, and some couldn't be because too much time has passed. Others are dead.

The release of the list comes as a grand jury investigates claims against six Pennsylvania dioceses, including Erie and Harrisburg.

News 8 asked the Harrisburg Diocese if it also plans to publish a list of people facing accusations. Spokesman Joe Aponick provided the following statement:

"The Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg was prepared to release names of accused priests in September of 2016, however the Office of Attorney General instructed us not to at that time, so as not to interfere in their ongoing investigation. We are revisiting this issue with the Office of Attorney General."

After apologizing for "grave errors" in the handling of a Chilean sex abuse scandal, Pope Francis will be welcoming three survivors to the Vatican in two weeks, according to survivor Juan Carlos Cruz. Cruz says the Vatican reached out to him last Saturday, inviting the three Chileans to be the Pope's guests from April 26 to May 1. The survivors will spend time with Francis as a group on April 28 and 29, Cruz said, plus hold individual meetings with the Pope. He says he wants to make the meetings not just about them but all the survivors of church sex abuse worldwide.
