A retired farmer in Charleston is selling his family's farm that includes a 30-acre plot once owned by the nation's 16th president. The farmer says he knows some people might think of the land's historical significance during Tuesday's auction. He says the land has been farmed the entire time, adding: "It's not like Lincoln's stove pipe hat, that you can put on a shelf and say this was Lincoln's." Lincoln bought 40 acres in 1841 from his cash-strapped father. Six acres became part of the current Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site.

Illinois State Police acknowledge agency wrongly issued gun license to Aurora shooter.
CHICAGO - Illinois State Police acknowledged Monday that the agency wrongly issued a gun license to the shooter in the Aurora warehouse murders, but in a detailed statement the agency also suggested that the Aurora Police Department may have failed to do its part to ensure the man no longer owned a weapon. According to state records, Gary Martin applied for a firearm owner's identification card on Jan. 17, 2014. He provided his name and birth date for a background check, and falsely answered "no" when asked if he had ever been convicted of a felony.
