US134 migrants walk around border wall, surrender to agents in Arizona

A video released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Wednesday shows more than 130 migrants walking around a border wall in southern Arizona, the latest incident involving large groups of migrants seeking asylum in the United States.

The group consisted of 134 Central Americans who were walking around the west end of the pedestrian fencing Tuesday in the small border town of Sasabe, about 77 miles west of Nogales, the agency said.

The group immediately surrendered to Border Patrol agents and eight members of the group were hospitalized, the agency said.

Ten hours later, another group of about 30 people crossed the border at the same location, according to Customs and Border Protection.

The agency said the influx of migrants has strained transportation, medical and manpower resources, creating a challenging "new normal" for border agents.

"The strain and human toll is frustrating for migrants, their families, the American public, and law enforcement agents alike," an agency statement read.

The Tucson Sector Border Patrol rescued 108 people who crossed the border illegally in the month of May, according to a Wednesday statement.

Late last month, Customs and Border Protection said Yuma Sector agents had apprehended 17,578 migrants, most traveling as families, in a five-month period, overwhelming resources and holding spaces.
