The helicopter crew from Henry-1 of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department thought about doing some open-water training Tuesday afternoon until spotting a great white shark swimming in the same area the crew had been training in the day before.

"NOPE!" the Sonoma Sheriff Facebook page posted. "The crew looked down and saw this beauty at the mouth of the Estero Americano in shallow water. The crew was quiet knowing they had been in that same water yesterday."

The sighting just south of Bodega Bay, Calif., occurred around 3 p.m. The crew notified park rangers and the Coast Guard of the shark's presence in the area.

Many of those who viewed the video wondered if night-vision technology was used because of how clear it looked but that wasn't the case.

"The last two days have had unbelievable clarity," the sheriff's post said. "That's standard video, nothing enhanced. We knew when we posted the video that question was going to come up. Also, with the mid-afternoon sun at that angle we think the lighting was perfect."

The Press Democrat reported that a surfer "got into a tussle" with a great white shark four weeks ago offshore of nearby North Salmon Creek Beach. The shark caught her surfboard leash in its mouth and thrashed around before swimming away.

"Such sharks are regularly seen in Bodega Bay and at the mouth of Tomales Bay, mostly by fishermen and boaters," the Press Democrat said.

This shark was 30 to 40 yards offshore but got just outside the breakers at one point, Sonoma Sheriff reported.

"The White Shark was estimated to be about 13-15′ long, definitely making it the 'Daddy Shark doo doo doo doo doo dood,'" the Sonoma Sheriff added.

"All our future water training is being rescheduled for Spring Lake, ha!"
