SAN ANTONIO — A total of 52 people were arrested in a recent four-day enforcement surge by federal officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) throughout South and Central Texas . Texas officials ramp up efforts to slow down undocumented immigration .

ICE agents arrested 52 undocumented immigrants in a four-day operation that spanned across South and Central Texas.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested more than 50 undocumented immigrants in a four-day operation in South and Central Texas, according to a news release from the agency.

During the operation, agents arrested 46 men and six women, according to the news release. Twenty were arrested in Laredo, 16 were arrested in Austin and Waco, nine were arrested in the Rio Grande Valley and seven were arrested in San Antonio.

The migrants hailed from Cuba, Mexico and Honduras, according to the news release.

Of the 52 arrested, 35 of them had prior criminal histories, which included charges such as assault, battery, domestic violence, traffic offenses, driving under the influence, drug possession, drug trafficking, larceny, illegal entry, illegal re-entry, resisting officers and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

"ICE's primary immigration enforcement effort is to target criminal aliens, public safety threats and individuals who have violated our nation's immigration laws," said Daniel Bible, A field office director  in San Antonio. "Our ICE officers provide a valuable public service by removing criminal aliens who pose a threat to their own immigrant communities, and they carry out the orders of federal immigration judges. There are 35 fewer criminals in our communities because of the efforts of our professional and dedicated officers."
