The Coast Guard said 39-year-old Mike Ryan and two children, ages 5 and 6, left the Plymouth boat ramp at 10 a.m. Sunday. Their vessel was described as a 20-foot Wellcraft with an outboard engine and no cabin.

Officials said they were going fishing between Plymouth and Provincetown but did not return and they were reported missing by family around 11 p.m.

"The boat left Provincetown last night, headed back to Plymouth. The boat broke down halfway between Provincetown and Plymouth," said Chief Warrant Officer T.J. Malvesti.

Credit: Alan Griffiths A 68-year-old scuba diver was rescued off the northern Queensland coast on November 7 after he had been left adrift for over 17 hours .

After receiving a call for help at around 12:00, police and local residents at downstream Changmei Town waited for the woman at a bridge where she Rescuers immediately rushed further downstream to a dock area where the flow was slow to searched for the woman. Four boatsmen finally found her

A search of the area involved an airplane, helicopter and three small boats. Malvesti said the crew of the helicopter spotted the boat, which was adrift, around 3:30 a.m. He said the outboard engine is believed to have failed, but added that a full investigation will be completed.

"We hooked the boat up in tow and towed them back here to Scituate," Malvesti said.

The family was located in the 20-foot boat off Scituate early Monday. The boat was towed back to shore.

Malvesti said the boat was equipped with the jackets, lifejackets and safety gear that was required.

"The big takeaway and the success of this mission -- besides being able to find them -- was the fact that somebody on land knew where they were, where they were going, what time they should've been home and what triggered the call was the fact that they didn't arrive back on time," Malvesti said.
