  3 killed in overnight shootings in Palm Bay Police in Palm Bay are investigating three deadly shootings, two of which occurred just blocks away from each other. Officials with the Palm Bay Police Department said they initially were called to a report of shots fired a little after 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Sign up for our Newsletters One person was found dead on Northview Street and Florida Avenue. Another person was found dead nearby in the area of Henry Street and Liberia Avenue. A third investigation is unfolding along Agora Circle where, police say another person was found fatally shot. It’s unclear if police believe the shootings are related. Police said the victims are male, but did not elaborate.

The sight of another school becoming the scene of a shooting has become sadly familiar.

Since the horror unleashed by a gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut in 2012, some 16,000 California students have experienced some sort of shooting at 15 schools in the state.

Though still rare, shootings like latest mayhem unleashed at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita are affecting a growing number of students and inspiring some of them to anti-gun activism.

He was walking home from school in Frankford around 3:30 p.m. when police say a man driving a red Pontiac G6 fired at the man in custody, who tried to shield the boy and fired back, the station reported.

“This is every student’s worst nightmare — to have a shooting at their school,” said Julia Runkle, 17, a volunteer with Students Demand Action Santa Clarita Valley, in a news release from gun-control group Everytown for Gun Safety. “My friends attend Saugus High, and our tears of anger and fear today will only strengthen our resolve to fight for an America where no one has to fear being shot.”

The following are California elementary, middle and high schools where shootings have been reported since 2012, the cities where they are located, the shooting date and their student enrollment reported to the state Department of Education in 2018. It adds up to more than 16,000 students, though enrollment could have been somewhat higher or lower the year of the shooting.

Not all the incidents resulted in deaths. They include an incident at Seaside High last year in which a teacher was demonstrating his personal firearm in class and fired a round into the ceiling.
