  One Dead In Overnight Shooting Near Fort Lauderdale The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting near Fort Lauderdale. © Provided by CBS Broadcasting Inc. Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area near NW 27th Terrace and 9th Street just before 1 a.m. concerning a report of shots fired. There they found the body of a man in a grassy area. Heartbroken family members identified the man as 38-year-old Channing Howard. Howard’s neighbors said he lived in the neighborhood, right across from where his body was found. One neighbor said someone came knocking on her door after the shooting.

Thousands of people held a candlelight vigil to remember two students shot and killed by a classmate at his Southern California high school as investigators try to determine what prompted the deadly attack that left three other teens wounded.

Berhow, 16, planned the attack at the Southern California high school , but investigators were so far unable to find out why he brought a gun to campus and opened fire Officials didn’t say how many recent threats are being investigated . Additional law enforcement will be posted at schools Monday.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities are investigating online threats against schools near the Los Angeles-area high school where a 16-year-old boy shot and killed two classmates and wounded three others.

Sheriff’s officials said Sunday that investigators have not found any of the threats made on social media to be credible.

Meanwhile detectives are searching for a motive for the killings carried out Thursday by Nathaniel Berhow at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita. The teen shot himself and later died. Authorities say Berhow didn’t appear to be linked to any ideology.

A wounded 14-year-old girl was released from the hospital Friday. A 15-year-old girl remains hospitalized in good condition.

Officials didn’t say how many recent threats are being investigated. Additional law enforcement will be posted at schools Monday.


Police look for suspects after 2 boys fatally shot outside California elementary school .
Two boys sitting in a van in a parking lot of a Northern California elementary school were fatally shot early Saturday, police say.Police did not identify the boys, ages 11 and 14, who were confronted in the parking lot of Searles Elementary School in Union City, about 30 miles outside San Francisco. Reports of gunshots in the area came in to 911 dispatchers.
