United Airlines is extending its ban on flights to mainland China and Hong Kong over concerns of coronavirus, the airline announced Wednesday.

The flights to Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai as well as Hong Kong will be suspended until April 24, according to the announcement.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and will evaluate our schedule as we remain in close contact with the CDC and other public health experts around the globe," American Airlines said in a statement.

Earlier this month the airline had suspended flights through Feb. 20.
