Trump says he's 'all for masks' despite reluctance to wear one
President Trump on Wednesday endorsed mask-wearing in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, saying he is "all for masks" despite resisting wearing one in public himself."I'm all for masks. I think masks are good," Trump told Fox Business in an interview, adding that he would wear a face covering if he were in a "tight situation" with other people.Trump noted that he hasn't had to wear a mask because people who come in contact with him are tested for the coronavirus. Asked whether he would wear a mask publicly, Trump said he would have "no problem" with doing so."I mean, I'd have no problem.
Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy urged President Trump to wear a mask to set a positive example for the rest of the country.
Doocy made the statement in two separate interviews on the show on Tuesday morning, questioning both Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy about why the president.
"People are saying, 'You know, I wish the president would put on a mask every once in a while just because it would make him look as if he is taking it seriously and is listening to the CDC because they have made it very clear,' and I know he is tested all the time, but the masks work," he said to McDaniel, who said that "the president has worn a mask" before summarizing the White House's response to the coronavirus pandemic.
House Democrat who's a physician calls on Trump to 'man up' and wear mask
Rep. Raul Ruiz (D-Calif.), who is a physician, on Thursday called on President Trump to "man up" and wear a mask as coronavirus cases spike in the U.S.Ruiz addressed the president during an interview on CNN's "New Day," requesting he wear a mask. Trump has so far been reluctant to wear one during the pandemic. "Man up, Mr. President. Wear your mask," Ruiz said. "That's the best thing you can do," he added. "You can save millions and millions of lives if you simply wear a mask.""Man up, Mr. President. Wear your mask," @RepRaulRuizMD says, urging Trump to be an example for Americans.This is "not the leadership America deserves right now," he adds.
"More states every day are mandating people, their citizens, to wear masks, and I think that if the president wore one, it would just set a good example. He would be a good role model. I don’t see any downside to the president wearing a mask in public," Doocy said. "MAGA should now stand for 'Masks are great again.'"
and has come under scrutiny by other public officials and the media for his decision not to wear one. The White House has, in a defense of the president, emphasized that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on masks are recommendations and not mandatory.
The host then brought the same topic up in a later interview with McCarthy.
The president "made it clear he doesn’t want to wear a mask, but his federal government says everybody should wear a mask," Doocy said. "Don’t you think it'd be a powerful symbol if the president of the United States would put on a mask and understand what so many people around the country are doing to try to slow down the spread of this thing?"

Dr. Anthony Fauci says "the least" protesters "can do is to consistently wear a mask." The director of the National Institution of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the public face of the White House's coronavirus task force spoke to Vice TV for an episode of "Shelter in Place" that premieres Thursday night. Congregating in a crowd, as protesters have been in the past month amid unrest over systemic racism, increases the risk of infection transmission, he said. McCarthy, like McDaniel, said that the president has worn a mask "at times" before tying mask-wearing into a way to help the economy.
"I’ve known the president to have worn masks at times as he goes forward," he said. "I do think ... with the more information we have [and] knowledge today, wearing the mask is the best opportunity for us to keep this economy open."
"I just don’t see any downside in the president being seen more often wearing it. It’s symbolic, obviously. It’s patriotic because you’re not only protecting yourself, you’re protecting other people," he added. "I’ve heard that there are people around the president who say, 'Now, you shouldn’t wear it,' but nonetheless, it would be a powerful symbol."
McCarthy agreed and presented the idea ofon the Fourth of July.
