So far, US President Donald Trump has consistently refused to wear a protective mask during public appearances. Now he bowed to the pressure of his advisors, as it was said in media reports.

On television, it was seen how Trump wore mouth-nose protection with the President's seal when he visited the Walter Reed Military Hospital near Washington. The 74-year-old, who met wounded veterans in the clinic, silently walked past the waiting reporters in the hospital corridor.

'Not OK': Neil Young denounces the use of his songs at Trump's Mount Rushmore event

'Not OK': Neil Young denounces the use of his songs at Trump's Mount Rushmore event Young has called out his songs being used at Trump events since 2015 after one of his hits was played during an official campaign announcement. "Donald Trump was not authorized to use 'Rockin' in the Free World' in his presidential candidacy announcement. Neil Young, a Canadian citizen, is a supporter of Bernie Sanders for President of the United States of America," said a statement from Young's representatives at the time.Recently, the family of the late Tom Petty condemned the apparent use of "I Won't Back Down" at Trump's campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in June.

Before the visit, Trump replied to a question, "I will probably wear a mask if you need to know that." And he added, "I think it's great to wear a mask. I've never been against masks, but I think there is a time and place for it." A mask was put on in the hospital where some of the wounded had just been operated on.

Bad example

In April, Trump announced guidelines from the CDC health authority that recommend wearing mouth-nose protection. Even then, he immediately made it clear that he would not wear a mask himself. Trump and the White House justify this by saying that the president is regularly tested for the corona virus. Nevertheless, he gave a bad example without a mask, criticized critics.

The USA has the most deaths worldwide that are associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection - namely around 135,000 (as of July 12, 2020 ). In view of the unchecked spread of the virus, Trump is apparently increasingly losing public support. In a recent ABC poll, two thirds of the participants expressed dissatisfaction with the president's corona crisis management.
