Winning numbers for last night's May 8 draw were: 12, 17, 20, 21, 26. The Powerball was 8 and the Power Play was X3.

No-one won the $157 million top prize on offer, according to the Powerball website.

It means the jackpot is expected to rise to $168 million (with a cash value of $117 million) for the next drawing on Thursday, May 13.

There were many smaller winners from the May 8 drawing.

Two tickets matched five numbers, without the Powerball, to win $1 million. One player matched five numbers with a X3 Power Play, with their winnings capped at $2 million.

The Powerball jackpot was last won on March 27, when a player from Florida scooped $238 million. That winning ticket was bought at a Publix, located in Lutz.

While the jackpot continues to grow, the next drawing's $168 million grand prize still falls short of the top-10 largest ever won. The tenth highest jackpot ever was $487 million—that was won on July 30, 2016, by a player in New Hampshire.

How to play Powerball

Drawings usually take place twice a week on a Wednesday and Saturday night, at 10:59 p.m. ET. Each draw is broadcast live from the lottery studio which is located in Tallahassee, Florida.

Players select five numbers from 1 to 69, in addition to one red Powerball number from 1 to 26. Each ticket costs $2 per play.

In certain circumstances, players can also multiply non-jackpot prizes by using the Power Play option for an additional $1.
