1975 - Founds Industrial Light and Magic, a division of Lucasfilm, to create the special effects for "Star Wars." Industrial Light and Magic becomes a leader in the special effects field, working on many films including, "The Abyss," "Jurassic Park," "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," and "Iron Man."

PGA Tour player Lucas Glover has carried a new item in his bag the past few weeks as part of an effort to help “recharge” a local course. Glover is using a club head cover from Ridgeland’s Sergeant Jasper Golf Club, known loca lly as “The Sarge.” The Congaree Foundation recently acquired Sergeant Jasper to renovate it for the public and to host youth programs. Congaree Golf Club near Gillisonville is the host of the upcoming Palmetto Championship, a PGA Tour event that was added to the schedule June 10-13 in place of the RBC Canadian Open, which was canceled because of logistical challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kansas City's Democratic mayor eyes Senate run .
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas (D) is urging Democrats to take a hard look at competing for an open U.S. Senate seat next year in Missouri - and he may want to be their nominee.In an interview, Lucas, 36, said he has met with Democratic Party officials about mounting a campaign to replace retiring Sen. Roy Blunt (R). He said his campaign, if he decides to run, would depart from more traditional Democratic candidates who have lost statewide elections in a state that has moved substantially to the right over the last 20 years. "It's a very serious consideration. That said, it was not a lifelong dream to be a United States senator," Lucas said.
