This is good news for biodiversity: in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Salonga National Park, the largest in the country, has just been removed (Monday) from the World Heritage List at Risk. With 36,000 km², this park, located in the center of the country, is considered the forest lung of the DRC.

It is nicknamed the green heart of Africa. Created in 1970, This Salonga park was quickly invaded by poacher gangs, from which this ranking in 1984 on the list of heritage at risk. In recent years, important work has been done in the fight against poaching.

"The management of this park has been really improved, because there are several NGOs that intervene in this park, including the Global Fund for Nature. There is also the ICCN, the Congolese Institute for the Conservation of Nature, with the help of some donors, "explains Landing Mane, the Director of the Central African Forests Satellital Observatory.
