Vietnam-Coronavirus: New Coronavirus Infections Record in Vietnam
Hanoi (Reuters) - Vietnam announced Saturday a new Record of Infections at COVID-19, with 7,968 additional cases in one day, more than two-thirds have been recorded in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the data from the Ministry of Health, the previous record of daily cases was 7.307.
After having managed to contain the virus for a large part of the pandemic, Vietnam faces a recrudescence of COVID-19, the commercial capital Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding provinces representing most of the new cases.
The Ministry of Health announced on Friday that it would prolong the confinement of the city until August 1st and that it would impose stricter restriction measures in the capital, Hanoi, from Saturday.
These measures include obligations to isolate at home, a prohibition of gatherings of more than two people and the interruption of public transport.
Vietnam has so far recorded 90,934 coronavirus infections and at least 370 deaths.

SYDNEY (AP) — Australia’s largest city Sydney will remain in lockdown for another month. The New South Wales state government announced that the lockdown of the city of 5 million would last at least until Aug. 28, after reporting on Wednesday 177 new infections in the latest 24-hour period. It was the largest daily tally since the cluster was discovered in mid-June. “I am as upset and frustrated as all of you that we were not able to get the case numbers we would have liked at this point in time but that is the reality,” New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian told reporters.
