Coronavirus cases have jumped 500% in Los Angeles County over the past month and health officials warned Tuesday, July 13, 2021, that the especially contagious delta variant of the disease continues to spread rapidly among California's unvaccinated population.

Dr. Joseph Kanter, LDH state health officer and medical director , said 27 people between the ages of 28 and 93 died with COVID more than two weeks after being fully vaccinated . “These are people who died from COVID, from complications of COVID, despite being vaccinated because the vaccine is not 100% [effective] and people with weakened immune systems, people who are a little bit older, and some people for reasons we don’t really understand, might not mount a full immune response to the vaccine ,” he said . According to the LDH, 1,563 breakthrough cases have been reported. As of June 7

After more than six months of New York’s Covid-19 vaccine rollout, during which residents were given “every form of incentives,” the city has “reached the limits of a purely voluntary system,” de Blasio said . It will move the ball. It will get more people vaccinated ,” he added. Both President Joe Biden and de Blasio have fallen short of their vaccination goals. The mayor had aimed to have 5 million New Yorkers fully inoculated against the virus by the end of June, but the current total is less than 4.5 million.

William Burns, the director of the CIA, said nearly all the agency's officers are fully vaccinated roughly a year and a half into the pandemic, which is displaying signs of resurgence with the spread of the more contagious delta variant.

"Navigating through the COVID pandemic — and we're still navigating through it, although, at CIA, we have fully vaccinated more than 95% of our officers, both at headquarters and overseas," Burns told NPR in an interview on Thursday. He made the comment while talking about taking care of the CIA's own and creating more diversity in the workforce.

Unvaccinated staff eyed in rising nursing home cases, deaths

Unvaccinated staff eyed in rising nursing home cases, deaths WASHINGTON (AP) — Lagging vaccination rates among nursing home staff are being linked to a national increase in COVID-19 infections and deaths at senior facilities in July, and are at the center of a federal investigation in a hard-hit Colorado location where disease detectives found many workers were not inoculated. The investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of facilities in the Grand Junction, Colorado, area raises concerns among public health doctors that successes in protecting vulnerable elders with vaccines could be in peril as the more aggressive delta variant spreads across the country.

The vaccines are not 100% effective in preventing infections and as tens of millions of people are vaccinated , more and more such cases will be reported. Pfizer/BioNTech's vaccine was 95 % effective in preventing symptomatic disease in clinical trials, and earlier this month the companies said real-life data in the US shows the vaccine is more than 91% effective against disease with any symptoms " Vaccine breakthrough infections make up a small percentage of people who are fully vaccinated . CDC recommends that all eligible people get a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as one is available to them.

Another fully vaccinated congressional staffer has tested positive for COVID. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky also said no change in face mask policy but she noted people can This means that fully vaccinated people are between 90% and 95 % less likely to develop COVID-19 than What's more , fully vaccinated people who test positive have mild illnesses, and are very unlikely to

The figure shared by Burns is far above vaccination rates seen across the country. A total of 162,725,812 people in the United States have been fully vaccinated, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Saturday, which is 49% of the population. COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. have risen above the 600,000 mark, and there have been more than 34 million cases, according to CDC data.

RAND PAUL SENDS CRIMINAL REFERRAL TO DOJ SAYING FAUCI LIED ABOUT GAIN-OF-FUNCTION RESEARCH FUNDING

During a CNN town hall on Tuesday, President Joe Biden urged people not to get "complacent" and get the vaccine.

"We have a pandemic for those who haven’t gotten a vaccination. It’s that basic, that simple. Ten thousand people have recently died; 9,950 of them, thereabouts, are people who hadn’t been vaccinated," Biden said. "There’s a simple, basic proposition: If you’re vaccinated, you’re not going to be hospitalized, you’re not going to be in an ICU unit, and you’re not going to die."

Full vaccinations of adults in other large Chinese cities have also made significant headway, with Shanghai and Wuhan exceeding rates of 80% and 77% respectively, local authorities said . China said on Thursday it has administered 1.49 billion doses of COVID-19 shots as of July 21 but it does not disclose nationwide data on how many people have been fully vaccinated . The vaccination pace in China slowed to about 11.8 million doses per day on average in July, compared with an average of nearly 20 million in June, while vaccination rates in some provinces lagged behind those seen in

The CIA is heavily involved in the U.S. intelligence community's efforts to discern the origins of the coronavirus pandemic. Biden ordered intelligence agencies to “redouble” their investigative efforts in May and gave them 90 days to report back.

More top Biden administration officials view the Wuhan lab leak theory to be as credible as the one about natural emergence, CNN reported this month. But Burns noted that the Chinese government, which denies the lab leak theory, has not been fully cooperative with the investigations.

"It is possible, like so many things that we may never be able to come to a definitive judgment [on], but it's not going to be for lack of hard work or effort on this issue to try to uncover as much as we can about what happened," he said.

Pressure grows on CDC to expand tracking of Covid-19 breakthrough cases .
The agency’s decision to limit its reporting of breakthrough cases has prompted wide variation in how states keep tabs on them. At least 30 states are monitoring all breakthrough infections, according to a POLITICO survey of state officials. Another eight — including Ohio, Texas and South Carolina — said they’re following CDC’s approach and only collecting data on severe cases. Two, Iowa and Missouri, said they don’t have good data on breakthrough cases of any type.
