Washington (Reuters) - The United States has condemned the ballistic missile shot that flew over Japan on Tuesday by North Korea, denouncing a "dangerous and irresponsible" act, and promised to defend South Korea and Japan with all the extent of their power, indicating however to remain open to dialogue with Pyongyang.

In a press release, the spokesperson for the National Security Council of the White House qualified the North Korean shooting "destabilizing" illustrating the "flagrant contempt" of North Korea for the resolutions of the Security Council of UN and international security standards.
