Several reported dead, 17 injured in Ottawa bus crash A double-deck city bus smashed into a transit shelter during Friday's rush hour, and Ottawa authorities said several people were killed and at least 17 people were injured.Police Chief Charles Bordeleau said that "there are some fatalities," though he didn't give a number. He said at least 17 people were hurt.The Ottawa Paramedic Service said there were multiple critical injuries.Ottawa Hospital's trauma center said it had received nine patients "in critical condition" from the crash.The accident happened at the Westboro station in a neighborhood west of downtown Ottawa.

State media said the bus was carrying 18 Cubans and 22 tourists from Europe, Mexico and Canada when it crashed Thursday afternoon on a road between the cities of Baracoa and Guantanamo.

The names of those killed were not released Friday, but officials said late in the day that two Argentines, one French citizen, one German and three Cubans died.

The driver told Radio Guantanamo that he lost control on the wet and winding road.

Cuban highways are poorly lighted, narrow and rutted with huge potholes. There were 750 deaths and 7,999 injuries in 11,187 accidents last year in the country of 11 million people. Thursday's wreck was the fourth major bus accident in a month.

Police in Denmark say all eight victims of a train crash in the central part of the Scandinavian country have now been identified, adding that all are Danish citizens.
