World Donald Trump: China declines president's request to probe Joe Biden
China vows not to ‘interfere’ after Trump asks for Biden probe
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Friday that China “will not interfere in the internal affairs of the U.S.,” after President Trump urged Beijing to probe his political rival, Joe Biden, amid an impeachment inquiry in Washington. “[W]e trust that the American people will be able to sort out their own problems,” the Global Times, a party-affiliated newspaper, reported Wang as saying.
WASHINGTON – China has reportedly rejected President Donald Trump's request to investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, with officials saying the country doesn't want to get involved in U.S. domestic politics.
“We have no intention of intervening in the domestic affairs of the United States. Our position is consistent and clear," China foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said in a report in the South China Morning Post, the main English-language newspaper in Hong Kong.
Rubio: Trump asking China to launch Biden investigation not 'a real request'
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) suggested Friday that President Trump was joking a day earlier when the president called for Ukraine and China to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden (D).Rubio claimed that Trump's remarks to journalists a day earlier at the White House were meant to rile up members of the media who would be "outraged" at the suggestion."Do you think it's OK for President Trump to ask China to launch an investigation of Joe Biden and Hunter Biden?" a reporter asked Rubio."I don't know if that's a real request or him just needling the press knowing that you guys were gonna get outraged by it," Rubio responded.
Already under investigation for asking Ukraine to dig up dirt on Biden, Trump on Thursday said on the South Lawn of the White House that China should also investigate his political foe.
"By the way, likewise, China should start an investigation into the Bidens because what happened in China is just about as bad as what happened with Ukraine," Trump told reporters.
Democrats and some Republicans denounced Trump for invoking China.
Trump and Beijing have been locked in a months-long trade war with both countries imposing an ever escalating series of tariffs. A delegation of Chinese negotiators is expected to arrive in Washington later this week.
