World 2 Americans among 7 killed in bus crash in Belize
More U.S. children die in mass shootings at home than at school -study
Three out of four U.S. children and teenagers killed in mass shootings over the past decade were victims of domestic violence and generally died in their homes, according to a study released on Thursday by the gun control group Everytown. While the specter of school shootings looms darkly in the minds of American parents who remember massacres in Newtown, Connecticut; Parkland, Florida, and around the country, the group's review of shootings from 2009 through 2018 found that far more children were killed in their own homes.
Two Americans were among seven people killed after an accident involving a tour bus, the State Department has confirmed.
A third international traveler and four locals also died in the crash, authorities said.
Carnival Cruise Line confirmed that seven guests on the Carnival Vista were in a bus accident while on an independent tour, and that there were "guests from at least one other cruise line on the bus."
With Boeing in Cross Hairs, Lion Air Gets a Pass on Poor Safety Record
When Lion Air Flight 610 took off in clear skies a year ago, the 737 jetliner carried with it an anti-stall system designed by Boeing that would propel the plane into a nose-dive minutes after takeoff, killing all 189 aboard. But the plane was saddled with another safety burden. Flight 610 was operated by Lion Air, a low-cost Indonesian carrier that has benefited from its political connections to become one of the world’s fastest growing airlines, despite a questionable safety record.
Police were called to the scene of the accident, apparently a head-on collision between two vehicles, around 3:10 p.m. local time on Wednesday, Alejandro Cowo, an official with the Belize Police Department, said at a press conference.
In addition to the seven who died, seven others remained hospitalized, Cowo added.
Investigators were "still determining what exactly led to the accident and who is at fault," Cowo said.

Out of consideration for those involved, we have no further information at this time."

Why airplanes are barely accessible for wheelchair users .
Disability advocates are working to make traveling by airplane less stressful and painful for wheelchair users. The 27-year-old author and speaker—who, alongside his fiancée, Hannah Aylward, is one half of the YouTube duo Squirmy and Grubs—has spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disorder that affects motor neurons and causes muscle wasting and weakness. The disorder contorted his limbs and he has used a wheelchair for mobility since he was 2 years old. Today, he uses a motorized wheelchair custom-fitted to his diminutive, 65-pound frame, but to board an airplane, he’s required to give it up.
