PARIS (Reuters) - Emmanuel Macron deemed possible, Tuesday in Nouakchott, the victory against the Islamist extremists in the Sahel, thanks to "spectacular" results obtained in recent months and to the efforts provided by France and the countries of the region.

The French president has however warned that the G5 Sahel forces should be exemplary in their fight, in reaction to accusations of abuses by some of them.

"We are all convinced that victory is possible in the Sahel. We are finding our way thanks to the efforts that have been made over the past six months," said Emmanuel Macron, after the summit of the G5 Sahel in Mauritania.
