NISSAN-GHOSN-TURKEY: Trial in Turkey of seven suspects in the flight of Carlos Ghosn
ISTANBUL (Reuters) - The trial of seven Turkish nationals accused of helping Carlos Ghosn, former boss of the Renault-Nissan alliance, in his escape from Japan in late 2019, opened on Friday in Istanbul.
The former "shogun" of the automobile industry, arrested in Tokyo in November 2018 on charges of financial embezzlement which he denies, in December 2019 evaded Japanese justice to take refuge in Lebanon, after a stopover in Turkey.
Okan Kösemen, a director of MNG Jet, whose planes were used by Carlos Ghosn during his escape, and four Turkish airline pilots are among the defendants. Accused of smuggling migrants, they were all arrested in early January, shortly after Carlos Ghosn's escape, and are liable to eight years in prison.
