The ancient Thai city is overrun by monkeys super-charged on junk food, whose population is growing out of control. Lopburi's monkey population is the town 's main tourist attraction but it’s growing unsustainable.
With tourists gone since Thailand closed its borders in April to control the coronavirus, Lopburi’s macaques have been getting hungry and aggressive. The government aims to sterilise 500 of the monkeys over the next two months, in an effort to control the size of their population.
Footage shows how hundreds of monkeys began tussling for the snack. When one of the animals fled with it, the creatures chased it up a grass bank. Lopburi is home to thousands of wild monkeys that roam the streets and buildings. Many live on the grounds of the city's ancient Buddhist temples.
