DOJ charges Russian GRU hackers for global malware campaigns
The Justice Department announced charges against Russian military hackers on Monday, indicting them for their alleged role in Russian cyberattacks targeting the United States, Ukraine, Georgia, France, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and more to advance the Kremlin’s interests around the world. © Provided by Washington Examiner The 50-page indictment unsealed on Monday was returned by a Pittsburgh grand jury last week, less than a month before the 2020 election.
BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany's Robert Koch Institute for infectious disease control was hit by a cyber attack days before its headquarters was the target of an arson attempt, Der Spiegel reported on Wednesday.

The red-brick headquarters in Berlin of the institute, which coordinates public health measures to stem the coronavirus pandemic, was the target of a firebomb attack at the weekend that caused superficial damage. Nobody was hurt.
Russian hackers were planning to attack the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games, according to the UK
The UK's statement about the 2020 Olympics hack came the same day the DOJ indicted six Russian officials for a series of cyber attacks."Russia's military intelligence service, the GRU, conducted cyber reconnaissance against officials and organisations at the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games due to take place in Tokyo this summer before they were postponed," the UK government said in a press statement.

Although most Germans support efforts to curb the pandemic, a sceptical minority including anti-vaccination activists, conspiracy theorists and the political far right, has staged protests.
The Robert Koch Institute declined to comment on the Spiegel report. The Federal Office for Information Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
