The missing $60B in Emmanuel Macron's defense ambitions

The missing $60B in Emmanuel Macron's defense ambitions Is President Emmanuel Macron of France willing to increase his annual defense budget by $60 billion? If not, he should stop seriously suggesting that France will lead the European Union to a credible strategic defense posture outside of the American orbit. © Provided by Washington Examiner I note this concern in light of the ongoing debate over Europe's security architecture between Macron and German defense minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer. In a recent Politico article and separate speech this week, Kramp-Karrenbauer (or AKK, as she is known) argued that the U.S. remains Europe's indispensable ally.

Paris police already faced accusations of excess force this week when they cleared out an illegal migrant campsite in a central Paris square. The alleged beating also came amid controversy over a draft law that would limit journalists' ability to show images of French police officers at work.

President Emmanuel Macron is "very shocked" at footage of three police officers beating up a black music producer in Paris , French media report. Article 24 of the bill makes it a criminal offence to post images of police or soldiers on social media which are deemed to target them as individuals.

After the beating of an music producer in Paris by police officers , Emmanuel Macron spoke this Friday on Facebook. In a long message, the head of state denounces images that "make us ashamed" and asks for "an exemplary police ".

The President of the Republic asks the government to make “proposals” to “fight against discrimination”. An IGPN investigation is underway and four police officers involved were taken into custody on Friday. As of Thursday, they had been suspended from their functions and the Minister of the Interior had, even before their hearing, assured that he would demand their dismissal from the police "as soon as the facts are established by justice".

Released on social networks by the Loopsider site, a first video, seen more than 11 million times, shows the victim, Michel Zecler, beaten for long minutes by uniformed police officers in the entrance of a studio of music from the 17th arrondissement of the capital.
