While the vaccination campaign began several weeks ago in most of Europe, Ukraine still had not started receiving vaccines against the coronavirus. The first doses arrived on February 23.

After serial delays and many criticisms, the Ukrainian government managed on Tuesday February 23 to have its first doses of vaccines against the coronavirus delivered and hopes to soon be able to start its vaccination campaign

The first batch containing 500,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India and marketed under the name Covishield arrived in the morning at the Boryspil airport in Kiev, the Ukrainian health ministry told AFP.

However, all of these goods are then sold at auction on a site of the Ministry of Justice .

"We will start the vaccination ASAP" (as soon as possible), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky promised on Twitter.

Ukrainian authorities have been widely criticized for failing to obtain vaccines earlier. Former Soviet republic of about 40 million inhabitants and one of the poorest countries in Europe, Ukraine has so far recorded more than 1.3 million cases of Covid-19 and more than 25,000 dead.

Originally, the government announced the start of the vaccination campaign for mid-February with the Pfizer / BioNTech product supplied under the UN Covax program. Now, Ukrainian media are talking about the delivery of the first doses of this vaccine in early March.

President Zelensky blamed the supply problems on competition from rich countries and called for European help.

Russian vaccine banned

Government plans to vaccinate the population in five stages. The first carried out with mobile teams should concern nearly 380,000 priority people, in particular caregivers treating Covid-19 patients, according to official information.

The pro-Russian separatists who control part of eastern Ukraine announced on February 1 the start of the immunization campaign with the Russian vaccine Sputnik V.

Kiev for its part banned the use of Russian vaccines in the territory under its control, seeing it as a geopolitical weapon of the Kremlin .

Ukraine has called Russia an "aggressor country" since it annexed Ukraine's Crimean peninsula in 2014 and the start of the war with the separatists, of whom Moscow is widely regarded as the political and military godfather.

The government expects a total of 17 million doses of vaccines developed by the Anglo-Swedish groups AstraZeneca and American Novavax and manufactured by the Indian Serum Institute.

Kiev is also due to receive eight million doses of vaccines as part of the UN Covax program to help the poorest countries.

The Ukrainian authorities have also signed a contract to purchase 1.9 million doses of the Chinese vaccine Sinovac, if its effectiveness reaches at least 70%.

20-Year-Old MAGA Pol’s War on Antifa Backfires Horribly .
Chaos. Incivility. Lack of respect for authority. Those are the things a Montana lawmaker accuses anti-fascists of in a new resolution intended to designate the movement a “domestic terrorist organization.” But the measure is struggling to get off the ground, and the 20-year-old MAGA acolyte-turned-state lawmaker pushing it seems to be the reason why. Days after far-right rioters broke into the U.S. Capitol, Montana state Rep. Braxton Mitchell introduced a resolution aimed at the opposite end of the political spectrum: “antifa,” the loosely affiliated left-wing anti-fascist movement.
