Six people, including a 5-year-old, were killed in Plymouth, southwest England, on Thursday in a "serious and tragic" shooting, local reports and authorities said.

The suspected shooter who killed himself with a gun after has been identified as 23-year-old Jake Davison, reported Sky News.

Five people died at the scene of the incident, and one died at a hospital not long after. Police said that investigations would continue throughout the night, according to Reuters.

Sharron Turner, a nearby resident, told The Times of London that the shooter, who was described to her as a man dressed in gray and black, kicked down a door and shot a mother and child with a semi-automatic weapon. She said the shooter then left through the back of the house and shot two dog walkers.

"We heard a number of loud bangs which I said sounded like gunshots. Then he ran into the park and there were further shots. I heard someone say he had shot his brother," Turner told The Times.

The shooting unfolded in the Keyham area of the English port city just after 6 p.m. local time, officials said.

"I am aware of a serious and tragic incident unfolding in Plymouth. Please obey all instructions from the police," Johnny Mercer, the member of parliament for Plymouth Moor View, said in a tweet.

The South Western Ambulance Service tweeted: "We responded to the incident with a significant number of resources, including Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART), multiple ambulances, air ambulances, multiple doctors, and senior paramedics."

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson extended his condolences Friday to the victims' friends and relatives in a tweet. "My thoughts are with the friends and family of those who lost their lives and with all those affected by the tragic incident in Plymouth last night. I thank the emergency services for their response," he wrote.

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel also tweeted: "The incident in Plymouth is shocking and my thoughts are with those affected."
